You own your data

Your patients' data never leaves your clinic

HM Praxis is built on one principle: the people who own a clinic should own its records. Patient data is encrypted on your own machines, team sync stays on your local network, and no patient information is ever sent to our servers.

14-day free trial. No credit card. Runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux.

Ownership, by design

Stored on your machines

Your patient database lives on the clinic's own computers, not in a multi-tenant cloud you share with strangers.

Encrypted at rest

The database is encrypted with SQLCipher, so a lost or stolen laptop does not expose your patients' records.

No PHI on our servers

Patient data never reaches us. Our servers only handle your account, license, and billing.

Yours to keep and export

Back up your local database and keep it. Cancel anytime and your records remain on your machine.

The wedge

Why data ownership is the whole point

Patient records are among the most sensitive data a clinic holds, and they are also one of its most important assets. When they live on a vendor's servers, you depend on that vendor's security, pricing, and continued existence to reach your own patients' history. That is a lot of trust to hand to a third party.

HM Praxis takes the opposite stance. The records are yours, stored where you can see them, encrypted so that owning the file is not the same as reading it, and never copied to infrastructure we control.

How we keep patient data off the wire

Keeping data local is not just a storage choice; it shapes how the whole product works.

  • The patient database is a local file on your computer, encrypted at rest with SQLCipher.
  • On Pro, team sync runs over your local network only, with no cloud relay carrying patient data.
  • The connection to our servers carries only your account, license, and billing, never a patient chart.
  • Automatic encrypted backups stay under your control, on storage you choose.

An honest note on what this is and is not

Keeping data local and encrypted supports your compliance obligations, but it is not a certification. We do not claim HIPAA, CFDI, or any other certification. You remain responsible for meeting the rules that apply where you practice; HM Praxis is designed to make that easier by keeping the data in your hands.

The honest summary: your patients' data stays in your clinic, you own it, and there are no per-patient cloud fees. You can read exactly how recovery and backups work in our data custody guide.

Frequently asked questions

Do you ever see my patients' data?

No. Patient data is stored and encrypted on your own machines. It is never uploaded to our servers. We only handle your account, license, and billing.

What encryption protects the records?

The local database is encrypted at rest with SQLCipher. The key is held by your operating system's secure store, and there are documented recovery paths if you change machines.

If my team shares data, does it go through the cloud?

No. On the Pro plan, your clinic's computers sync over the local network only. Patient data never passes through any server we operate.

Can I take my data with me?

Yes. Your database is a local file you can back up and keep. If you stop subscribing, the records remain on your computer; they are not locked away on a server.
