Works offline
Dental software that works without internet
HM Praxis is a desktop app, so the schedule and the charts are on the computer in front of you. Open patients, book visits, and take payment with no connection at all. The internet is only ever used to validate your license.
14-day free trial. No credit card. Runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux.
Offline is the default
The app lives on your machine
HM Praxis is installed software. Once it is set up, the whole app runs locally with no connection required.
Your data is local too
The patient database is a file on your computer, encrypted at rest. It is not streamed from a server.
Connection only for licensing
The internet is used to validate your license and fetch updates, and both tolerate being offline for a while.
Team sync over the LAN
On Pro, clinic computers sync directly over the local network, so even sharing data needs no cloud.
How it works
A real install, not a cached website
Many web apps offer a limited offline mode that caches a few screens and breaks the moment you try to do real work. HM Praxis is built the other way around. It is a native desktop application, and your SQLite database lives on the same machine, encrypted at rest with SQLCipher.
That means there is no degraded offline mode to fall back to, because local is the normal mode. A flaky connection in the operatory or a full regional outage does not change how the app behaves.
What you can do with no connection
Offline, HM Praxis is the complete app, not a read-only view:
- Open any patient chart and review full medical and dental history
- Book, reschedule, and complete appointments on the calendar
- Chart the odontogram, write prescriptions, and update treatment plans
- Create invoices, record payments, and adjust inventory
What still needs the internet, and why it is fine
Two things use a connection: validating your license and downloading app updates. License validation is built to tolerate normal offline stretches, so the app keeps working between checks and simply re-validates when it can reach the internet again. Updates are optional and can wait until you are online.
On the Pro plan, sharing data across your team also avoids the internet entirely: clinic computers find each other on the local network and sync directly, so patient data never touches a server we run.
Frequently asked questions
Will the app open if my internet is down?
Yes. The app and your data are on your computer, so it opens and runs normally with no connection. You only need the internet occasionally to validate your license and to get updates.
How long can I stay offline?
License validation is designed to tolerate normal offline periods, so you can work through everyday stretches without a connection. The app re-validates automatically once it can reach the internet again.
Is the offline version missing features?
No. Local is the default mode, so you get the full feature set offline, including the dental edition, billing, inventory, and reports.
Does my team need the internet to share patient data?
No. On the Pro plan, your clinic's computers sync over the local network. The patient data never passes through any server we operate.
