Settings

HM Praxis keeps everything you configure in one place. Settings opens from the user menu and from the sidebar, and it is a strip of tabs: ten for a dental practice, nine for every other kind. They cover who you are, how the app looks and behaves, what your practice is called, how it invoices, its backups, your subscription, and the things this install connects to.

Looking for the invoicing currency or the tax rate?

They are on the Invoicing tab, not Branding. The tax label, the tax rate, the tax base, the patient ID type and the currency all used to sit under Branding beside the logo and the accent colour. They now have their own tab, because that is where you look for them.

How Settings is organized

The tabs run in the order you reach for a setting: yourself first, then how the app behaves, then the practice, then money, then the operational panels, with the diagnostic log last because it is for support rather than for running a clinic.

  • A tab you cannot use yet is marked, not hidden. On a Basic plan the Connections tab carries a "Pro" badge, because it is something you can upgrade to reach and the panel behind it is where you would set it up. The Dental tab is the one exception: it appears only when the dental specialty is active, since other practices have nothing to configure there.
  • Links elsewhere in the app can open Settings on a specific tab, and retired names still resolve: the old "Appearance" and "Language" tabs open Preferences, and "Devices" and "Integrations" open Connections.

The tabs

Profile

Who is signed in, and to which practice: your name, email, plan, organization and role. It is read-only, because your account lives on rb-devops.com and is managed there. This tab also holds the specialty picker, which decides the clinical tools the rest of the app shows you, and it is the only place to change your specialty.

Preferences

Two display choices: the theme (Light, Dark, or System, which follows your operating system) and the language (English or Spanish). Both take effect at once and are stored on this device.

Branding

What your practice looks like on screen and on what it prints: practice name, tagline, logo, address and contact details, tax ID, website, a set of colour presets, the primary and secondary colours, the dashboard card colours, and the text colour. Colour changes preview live before you save. If your practice belongs to an organization, the practice name is the organization name, so renaming it here renames the organization everywhere and syncs the change to rb-devops.com.

Invoicing

The defaults applied to every new invoice and every new patient record, so you set them once and can still override them per record:

  • Tax label and tax rate: "IVA" at 16, "VAT" at 21, "Sales Tax" at 7.25, or whatever your region uses.
  • Tax base: whether the rate applies to the full subtotal or to the amount left after a discount.
  • Patient ID type: the identifier your patients carry, such as RFC, CURP, VAT or EIN.
  • Invoicing currency: chosen from a list of fourteen. Blank means US dollars. Every invoice you issue is denominated in it, so if an unfamiliar code was saved by an older version the tab shows it and flags it for you to check.
  • Fiscal data (CFDI): an optional tax regime and legal name (razón social) that feed a local CFDI 4.0 pre-invoice. There is no stamping (timbrado); these fields are advisory and never required.

Backup & Restore

Your local backups and the controls for them:

  • Database information: the size and date of your live database.
  • Manual actions: create a backup now, export one to a folder you choose, or import one from a file.
  • Available backups: every backup the app has taken, ten to a page, each with Restore and Delete. Both confirm and name the file first; Restore also warns that it replaces your live database and may need a restart. A backup from a much older version, with no provenance record, asks one extra confirmation that it belongs to this practice.
  • Automatic backups: a schedule and a destination folder for unattended backups.
  • Sample data: load a demonstration clinic to explore the app, or clear it afterwards. If the app cannot tell whether sample data is present, it offers neither action and asks you to retry rather than risk seeding or wiping the wrong set.

The tab also shows the folder the app writes its own backups to, so you can copy them elsewhere. Backups covers the schedule and the restore flow in full.

Subscription

Your licence at a glance: its status (valid, in its grace period, expired, and so on), your tier, your organization, the expiry date and the days remaining, plus an offline badge and offline grace days when the app has not reached the server recently. Refresh status re-checks with rb-devops.com. Warnings appear when the licence has expired, is in grace, or expires within a week. The buttons open the matching page on the website: Manage subscription, Renew now (shown within thirty days of expiry or after it), and Contact support. The cards below describe Trial, Basic and Pro; the VIP card appears only if you hold a VIP licence.

Connections

Everything this install talks to, in one place: Devices, the other workstations in your clinic that share this database over the local network, and Calendar sync, a one-way push of your appointments to Google Calendar or Microsoft 365. On a Basic plan the tab carries a "Pro" badge, and the panel is still where you enter the details to set either one up. See Calendar Sync for the setup steps.

Dental

Shown only for dental practices. Three dental-specific settings: your operatories (the rooms or chairs appointments are booked into), the tooth-numbering system on the chart (FDI, Universal or Palmer; records are stored in FDI regardless, so you can switch at any time), and the list of imaging types, which you can edit so a cephalometric or CBCT study is filed as itself rather than as "Other".

Templates

The record templates behind structured clinical notes: the ones HM Praxis ships and any your practice creates. A template's number and scale fields are what the Clinical Trends view can chart, so this is where you set up a measurement you want to follow over time.

Application Logs

For support rather than daily use. The diagnostic log records what the app is doing internally; the audit trail below it is a separate, clinical record of who changed what. Both are readable here, and neither is something you act on to run the clinic.

One Save covers Branding and Invoicing

Branding and Invoicing are two views of a single record, so each carries its own Save button and one save writes both tabs. A change on either is saved together with anything still unsaved on the other.

If Save is disabled: when the app could not read your practice details as the tab opened, the form is showing defaults rather than your settings, and saving would overwrite the real ones, so the button stays disabled until you reopen Settings with the database available. On the Invoicing tab, a disabled Save with no obvious cause means there is no practice name yet: add it on the Branding tab first.
