Specialties
HM Praxis covers 23 clinical specialties. The specialty is a choice each clinician makes for themselves - the organization never overrides it - and it tailors the record templates and navigation to how that clinician actually works. A multi-specialty clinic runs from one shared database while every provider keeps the right tools.
The 23 Specialties
Every clinician picks one of the following:
- General medicine
- Dental
- Cardiology
- Dermatology
- Endocrinology
- Gastroenterology
- General surgery
- Geriatrics
- Gynecology
- Nephrology
- Neurology
- Nutrition
- Oncology
- Ophthalmology
- Orthopedics
- Otolaryngology (ENT)
- Pediatrics
- Physiotherapy
- Psychiatry
- Psychology
- Pulmonology
- Rheumatology
- Urology
Per Clinician, Not Per Organization
The specialty belongs to the member, not the practice. Each clinician chooses their own, and HM Praxis never lets the organization overrule that personal choice. You can set or change your specialty from several places:
- The first-run Setup Wizard
- A first-login prompt
- Settings → Profile, any time later
- An admin can pre-assign each member's specialty in the Organizations hub
Because the choice is per member, a dentist, a pediatrician, and a nutritionist can share one organization and one database, each seeing the tools and templates that fit their own practice.
What Changes Per Specialty
Choosing a specialty adjusts the app in four concrete ways:
Record templates
Every specialty ships a tailored default record template, in addition to the three universal templates: Vitals, SOAP, and Progress. You see the universal templates plus the one for your specialty.
Navigation
Three specialties add a navigation item: Dental adds Odontogram, Pediatrics adds Growth, and Physiotherapy adds Progress.
Reports
For a dental clinician, Reports adds a Dental tab with the reporting that matters to a dental practice.
Settings
For a dental clinician, Settings adds a Dental tab, where you manage operatories (chairs).
Specialty-Specific Tools vs. Tailored Templates
To be precise about what each specialty gets:
- Dental, Pediatrics, and Physiotherapy add specialty-specific tools - the odontogram and dental suite, growth tracking, and progress tracking respectively.
- The other 20 specialties use a tailored record template on top of the shared clinical toolset that every clinician gets (patients, scheduling, records, prescriptions, treatment plans, inventory, services, billing, and reports).
Only Dental, Pediatrics, and Physiotherapy have dedicated screens today. The remaining specialties are tailored through their default record template, not through separate bespoke modules.
